Reporting to the Director of Financial Assistance, the Counselor provides exemplary service to various constituencies in the planning, awarding and processing of financial assistance. This position is responsible for assisting with the general administration of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs. In addition, the Counselor provides counseling to current and prospective students (in an assigned case management concept), disseminates information to various constituencies, and awards funds to support a liberal arts and professional education program. This position serves as a member of the Office of Financial Assistance (OFA) team within the Division of Enrollment Management.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Advise students and other interested parties in all aspects of financial aid.
  • Process and review verification and special conditions for a defined student population. This population is presently being defined as undergraduate.
  • Assist with VA certification and employee tuition benefits.
  • Participate in communicating the awarding processes within Enrollment Management.
  • Develop a knowledge base within the operations function of the service area.
  • Maintain current knowledge base of federal and state regulations governing aid programs to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the University.
  • Participate in the strategic planning process for the OFA and make recommendations for enhancing departmental operations, including the establishment and implementation of short and long term goals.
  • Interact with faculty, administration and staff to provide and exchange information and to enhance the counseling and advising of students.
  • Consistently provide outstanding customer service to all constituents.
  • Other duties as assigned by the director.

 

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required.

 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 year financial aid experience preferred. Familiarity with an accredited college or university setting is necessary.

 

LICENSE: Valid driver's license

  • The capability to learn and effectively use Banner, as well as proficiency with productivity software including Microsoft products.

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems, and initiate and implement projects in consultation with the Director.
  • Display a strong commitment to the mission of the institution, and be able to articulate the value of a Marianist, Catholic education.

  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

                                        

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   Sedentary work. Must be able to operate computer keyboard and ten key calculator by touch. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds during recruitment-related travel is required.  The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
