The St. Mary's University Political Science Department is conducting a search for an Assistant Professor and Director of its onsite Masters in Public Administration program. The desired applicant must hold a Ph.D. in political science or a Doctorate in public administration (DPA) from an accredited University with major concentrations in areas related to Public Administration and American Politics. Teaching, professional expertise, and research in areas of Public Sector Performance or Organizational Management, Research Methods in Public Administration, Public Policy or American Political Behavior or some combination is preferable. The typical teaching load at the University is four courses per semester. One course release per semester is available for a successful candidate for directing the graduate program in Public Administration.  The duties of this directorship include course and program scheduling, program assessment, and developing relationships for internship opportunities with local municipal and state government agencies and employers. The Director would also explore further extending the MPA program online. Experience with the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) or the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) or with the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) - or other professional administration organizations- is highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an interest in affiliating with the University's Center for Catholic Studies, which will explore a wide range of human issues across disciplinary boundaries, and in a global or local context, including, but not limited to, poverty, economic justice, religious freedom, or immigration, etc...

The position is a full-time, tenure track appointment, commencing in August 2018.  Department faculty cover a full range of courses in a general graduate degree in public administration, an undergraduate political science degree, and provide support to core courses in the university core curriculum. The department is the civic conscience of the university and fosters the building of "the good life" through education of the whole student, committed to civic engagement, justice and service to society.  The Department resides in the School of Humanities and Social Science.
