St. Mary's University seeks applicants for a full-time Visiting Instructor of Drama/English (non-tenure accruing), housed in the Department of Drama and to begin Fall 2018. Candidates must have an M.F.A. or Ph.D., with expertise in Directing, Theatre History and/or Performance Studies preferred. The successful candidate will be able to teach a diverse range of departmental courses (including one in theatre education) and courses in support of the St. Mary's Core, especially "Foundations of Practice: Fine Arts & the Creative Process (Theatre Emphasis)."  The ability to teach courses in the Department of English is also desirable, such as courses in Shakespearean Studies, Drama Analysis and Masterpieces of Drama.  An ordinary teaching load at St. Mary's University is 12 hours per semester, with additional duties related to recruitment, production, committee appointments, departmental representation, faculty development and community-based activities.

The Department is a small, well established and growing program that currently offers a minor (18 hours) in Drama. We are undergoing an exciting phase in which we continue to re-examine our curricular and theatre production needs not only to enrich our program, but also to collaborate more with other departments. We seek projects that align with the University's designation as a campus of conscience, and we advocate for initiatives in service, peace, and social justice.

St. Mary's University, operated by the Society of Mary, is a Catholic university with the mission to foster a community of faith in which people of varied traditions and experiences unite in commitment to an educational venture, in dedication to a life of scholarship, and in service to society. The successful applicant need not be of the Catholic faith but must be supportive of the Marianist educational mission. This means a commitment to "seek what it means to believe in the midst of the complexities and ambiguities that are inescapably part of living a faith that respects the achievement of reason." St. Mary's University places special concern for the poor and marginalized and promotes the dignity, rights, and responsibilities of all peoples. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an interest in affiliating with the University's Center for Catholic Studies.
