St. Mary's University of San Antonio, a private, Catholic university invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biological Sciences beginning August 2018. We are seeking a life scientist with expertise in an area of biology that will complement the current strengths of the department.  The primary responsibilities of this position will be teaching undergraduate courses in cell biology and genetic principles.  Additional teaching duties may include a cell and molecular methods laboratory course.   Preference will be given to individuals who also possess expertise in the field of genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, or bioinformatics. While teaching is the primary function of the position, research, especially involving undergraduates, is expected of the successful candidate.  The presence of an active biomedical research community in the San Antonio area provides the opportunity to establish collaborative research projects in many fields.  A Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline is required and postdoctoral experience is preferred.  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an interest in affiliating with the University's Center for Catholic Studies and working to integrate biosciences and Catholic social teaching.  Founded in 1852 and operated by the Society of Mary, St. Mary's University is a recognized Hispanic Serving Institution with a proven history of preparing undergraduate science students for careers in health professions and research.  The mission of St. Mary's as a Catholic university is to foster a community of faith in which people of varied traditions and experiences unite in commitment to an educational venture, in dedication to a life of scholarship, and in service to society. The successful applicant need not be of the Catholic faith but must be supportive of the Marianist educational mission.  For more information visit the university web site at www.stmarytx.edu or contact the chair at traabe@stmarytx.edu or 210-431-4321.  Salary is commensurate with experience and is accompanied by a strong benefits package.
