Supervises the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of all student athletes on a year round basis related to any injuries. Position will consult with the Team Physician, Athletics Administration and Coaching Staff. This person reports to the Athletics Director and is responsible for performing the duties and requirements of the athletics trainer, as well as working in coordination with others in Athletics to achieve the departmental and strategic goals. In addition, this person must be committed to the educational Mission of the University.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide supervision and consultation of pre-season conditioning for all sports.
  • Work with the team physician to schedule physicals for all athletes working
  • Provide daily care for all athletic injuries in preparation for practices and competitions
  • Process all athletic injury insurance claims & maintain student records
  • Coordinate and administer drug screening programs required by St. Mary's and NCAA
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the Graduate Assistants Training Program
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and schedule student training staff
  • Refer and coordinate student-athlete's care needs with staff at the University Student Health Center as necessary
  • Coordinate health education programs for student athletes in conjunction with the University's NCAA Compliance Officer, Student Health Center staff and student organizations                              
  • Responsible for managing the athletic training budget
  • Travel with teams as required
  • Other duties as required



  • Certified by National Athletic Trainers Association
  • Texas license in Athletic Training by the State Department of Health.
  • CPR certified
  • Bachelor Degree required / Masters Degree preferred




  • Excellent communication skills and must be computer proficient with Microsoft and email technology
  • Minimum one to three years experience as an athletic trainer


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May need to lift up to 180 pounds. Frequent lifting, kneeling, walking, bending, sitting, reaching, and pulling.  Must have proper manual dexterity to enter data on a computer, file files, operate office and training room machines, and write.  Read small print (at least 10 point) on computer screen.  Manage stress and able to handle concurrent projects simultaneously.  Excellent communication skills.  Early morning, evening and weekend hours required.
