The Painter performs such painting requirements as may arise throughout the campus to include surface preparation.


  • Prepares surfaces for painting; remove old finishes, fill holes, repair cracks, caulk, putty, plaster, tape, float, texture, and/or applies primer to various surfaces.
  • Removes and repairs sheetrock, plaster, tile, stucco and other wall/ceiling surfaces.
  • Applies paint, varnish, stain and/or other finishes to property walls, ceilings, floors, and furniture; applies sealers or finish coats to new or repaired surfaces.
  • Mixes tints and pigment to produce desired colors to include putty and stains; mixes and applies sprayed-on acoustic and wall texture.
  • Covers surfaces with appropriate material for protection during painting and post appropriate paint signs.
  • Reads work orders or receives instructions from supervisor in order to determine work requirements; submits reports describing work performed, material used, and amount of time spent to accomplish the job.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working area; maintains paint equipment to keep it clean and serviceable along with adequate working stock of paint, stain, tints and equipment.
  • Arranges or assembles scaffolding, ladders, trestles, planks, window jacks, and stages, when needed.
  • Operates electric golf cart and air compressor.
  • Uses tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, compressors, as well as common hand and power tools to do the work.
  • Transports various items (tools, equipment, sundries, etc.) to ensure materials at work location.
  • Performs minor carpentry work and may be assigned to other general maintenance work orders.
  • Cleans up and stores paint and painting tools and equipment appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • High School Diploma or GED required;
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance, and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date.
  • Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate basic skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and common office equipment to include: computer, copier, and Ipad.
  • Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English; must have ability to read written instructions, warning labels, SDS Sheets in English, understand blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Must possess legible handwriting, possess eyesight in both eyes corrected to 20/20 and normal hearing ability (may be corrected); must successfully pass a PIPIC test for color blindness.
  • Must possess mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in order to compute material costs as required for completion of work order form.
  • Must be able to successfully handle frustrating conditions such as limits on time and limited access to equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and display good judgment when providing customer service.
  • Ability to obtain OEHS certification for N-95 and SCBA upon employment per OEHS and OSHA regulation section 1910.134. (g) (1) (i) subtitle 1910.134(g)(1)(:)(A), and 1910.134(g)(1)(:)(B) required; ability to maintain SCBA and N-95 certification required


  • Able to carry 50 pounds up and down stairs; occasional lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/ stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment
  • Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, inclement weather, insects, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular hours
